Sharon Abshagen is an oil painter who paints studio and plein air paintings of the Four Corners region.
Sharon grew up in Colorado and has lived in Durango for the last 35 years. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Fort Lewis College with an emphasis in fiber art she spent many years painting watercolor and weaving large tapestries. After joining the local plein air painting group she realized her first love was oil painting and has been concentrating on this art form ever since. Sharon finds painting on location exciting and challenging and hopes this love of the out-of-doors comes through her paintings.
Sharon is a signature member of the Plein Air Artists of America, and Plein Air Painters of the Four Corners. She has shown her work in numerous regional and national juried exhibitions.
“My goal as an artist is to record the known as well as the unknown. I hope to inspire the viewer to feel the elements of the day, capture the beauty of a scene and trigger the imagination.”
